DOT moves closer to antitrust immunity for "oneworld" alliance
The Department of Transportation tentatively approved the antitrust immunity request from the "oneworld" airline alliance. "If the decision is made final, American and its 'oneworld' alliance partners British Airways, Iberia Airlines, Finnair and Royal Jordanian Airlines would be able to more closely coordinate international operations in trans-Atlantic markets," the DOT said. Branson says DOT's "oneworld" decision is "kick in the teeth": Sir Richard Branson, head of Virgin Atlantic, criticized the decision by the U.S. government to tentatively approve the antitrust immunity of the "oneworld" airline alliance and said it would "blatantly harm competition and the consumer."
