The RAT deploys and supplies full rated hydraulic power in 6 seconds
maximum and electrical power in 10 seconds maximum from the command.
These conditions cause the RAT to deploy automatically in flight:
- Loss of all engines
- Both engines less than minimum idle rpm
- Loss of all hydraulic power - L, R, and C systems detect low pressure
- Loss of all electrical power
- BPCU detects loss of power to C1 and C2 transformer rectifier units (TRU)
- On approach, loss of all four EMP hydraulic pressures and loss of either the
left or right flight controls actuator control electronics (ACE)
- Rotor burst on takeoff that causes loss of both PECS primary cooling loops.
Once deployed, the RAT can only be retracted on the ground by maintenance
action.
