1. The horizontal stabilizer cutout switches are used to remove power from the
electric motor control unit (EMCU).
- This stops stabilizer movement if there is a run-away condition.
2. There are 2 guarded cutout switches.
3. The switches are on the speedbrake/stabilizer cutout module.
4. Each switch has 2 positions:
- NORMAL
- CUTOUT.
5. In CUTOUT, the switches command the EMCU to remove power from the
onside HSTA motor and brake assembly.
- This causes the motor to stop and the secondary brake to set.
System Description Section (SDS)
Purpose
Two stabilizer cutout switches (L2 and R2) are on the control stand at the right
of the alternate pitch trim switches and at the aft edge of the speedbrake/
stabilizer cutout module.
The cutout switches are 2-position guarded switches. The switch guard keeps
the switch in the NORM position prevents accidental switch operation.
When the switch guard up, you can move the switch to the CUTOUT position.
In the CUTOUT position, the switch commands the related electric motor
control unit (EMCU) to stop its horizontal stabilizer electric motor and apply the
brake.
General
Each cutout switch connects directly to a horizontal stabilizer EMCU. The L2
cutout switch connects to the L2 EMCU and the R2 cutout switch connects to
the R2 EMCU.
The EMCUs send horizontal stabilizer cutout switch data to the FCE Cabinets.
The 2 cutout switches operate independently.
AMM
When you remove the stabilizer cutout switches, first remove the speedbrake
control module. Remove the speedbrake handle next, then remove the 2
stabilizer cutout switches.
After installation of the alternate pitch trim switches, do these tasks:
- Speedbrake Control – System Test
- Horizontal Stabilizer Cutout Switches – Operational Test.
Task Cards
According to the Task cards, a Horizontal Stabilizer (L2 and R2) Cutout
Switches operational test is necessary every 12000 flt hours.
