Terminal 2 completed its major renovation & extension project, and officially reopened Sept. 29, 2016, when Kuwait Airways (KAK) was its first flight arrival. 'New' T2 now has a capacity of 7.5M passengers annually and is intended for use by OneWorld & SkyTeam alliance members . The new three-level terminal covers around 92,000 sq.meters and includes 72 counters, 20 departure gates and a duty free shopping area. A new all-glass departure lounge is connected by an overpass to the arrivals lounge. Its 14 gates will take passengers to 38 new immigration counters. At far end of T2B is a double-level gate for Airbus A380. The center of the terminal houses a 26,000 sq.meter shopping & eating area.
The new baggage handling system will ensure speedy flows & high security checks. TB2 will be able to handle 20,000 passengers a day, while Customs processing for departing passengers will take about 36 minutes, and for arriving passengers 29 minutes. Upon T2's reopening - both T2 & T3 will be connected via airbridge.
