A Center South Airlines Tupolev TU-134, flight CTS-9652 from Karaganda (Kazakhstan) to Perm (Russia) with 31 passengers forming the Permian hockey team and 12 crew, was climbing out of Karaganda when the crew reported an engine failure and subsequent shut down of the engine and decided to divert to Astana (Kazakhstan) about 100nm north of Karaganda. The aircraft landed safely in Astana.
The hockey team boarded a replacement aircraft provided by Air Astana and returned safely home with some delay.
Center South Airlines operates seven TU-134s as well as Yak-40s and Superjets 95.
