2. Dismissing the CSeries. Leahy derided Bombardier's recent breakout order from Delta for its new CSeries jet. He said he "heard" Bombardier sold the jets to Delta for just $22 million apiece and will lose $7 million on each aircraft. "Probably by selling it faster they'll put the company out of business faster," he said. Leahy said Airbus, which last fall took a pass on buying the CSeries program from Bombardier, had determined that it could make the aircraft profitable by implementing efficiencies that would cut the cost of each CSeries by about $6 million. He also had a quick comeback when asked about his earlier vow to strangle the fledgling CSeries program. "It's a cute little airplane," he said. "And nobody strangles a cute little anything."

Bombardier reports loss; Russian C Series order scaled back
Russian aircraft lessor Ilyushin Finance Co. has scaled back its order for Bombardier Inc. C Series jets as the Canadian plane maker reported a slightly wider-than-expected loss for its latest quarter and reaffirmed previous full-year financial guidance.
For months, the market has been worried about the shakiness of an order by Ilyushin for 32 larger CS300 planes, which the lessor is now cutting back to 20. The company is subject to the effects of economic sanctions imposed by Canada and other Western democracies on Russia and is also seeing generally weaker market conditions.

The development casts a spotlight again on the makeup of the order book for the C Series, the new flagship airliner that Bombardier is counting on to drive its revenue over the next decade. Although the company enjoys some blue-chip customers, such as Delta Air Lines, it also has some questionable orders in the mix as part of an overall backlog of about 360 C Series planes.
In August, 2015, aerospace consultancy Leeham Co. released an analysis stating that more than half of the C Series orders that Bombardier is slated to fill over the next three years face some degree of risk. That includes deals with Odyssey Airlines Ltd., a startup, and Republic Airways Holdings, which recently sought bankruptcy protection.
“We have assumed that we could lose some orders,” Bombardier chief executive officer Alain Bellemare said in an interview on Friday, calling them “one-offs” that would not be material to the C Series program. “The quality of our backlog is very strong. A year ago, people could challenge this a little bit, but not anymore.”
The Ilyushin update came as Bombardier reported an adjusted loss of $83-million (U.S.), or 6 cents a share for the second quarter on revenue of $4.3-billion. Analysts had expected a loss of 5 cents a share on revenue of $4.2-billion. Special items in the quarter include a $492-million non-cash “onerous contract provision,” disclosed previously, related to three specific C Series orders. Not including special items, the plane maker tallied a loss of 24 cents per share.

Pratt & Whitney.

Qatar Airways.
