Dear Mr Bond,
Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Eurowings and SWISS are introducing a revenue-based system for the calculation of award miles for flight bookings. For flights booked from 12 March 2018 onwards, the fare will form the new basis for the calculation.
For you, as a Miles & More member, this will mean:
fare (ticket price + surcharges levied by the Miles & More partner airline¹) x 4 = number of award miles earned. For example, if you have paid a fare of 500 euros, this amount will be multiplied by 4. So you will receive 2,000 award miles for your flight.
Should you achieve frequent flyer status at some point in the future, you will also receive an Executive Bonus. This is worth 50% on flights operated by Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, United Airlines, Air Canada, LOT Polish Airlines, Croatia Airlines, Adria Airlines and Air Dolomiti, and 25% on flights operated by Eurowings, Brussels Airlines and all other Miles & More partner airlines¹.
Please note: the new system does not apply to status, select and HON Circle miles. These will continue to be awarded in the usual way in accordance with the present system.
By making this change now our intention is to ensure the long-term future of award miles’ allocation. This new system will also help us to avoid having to make further adjustments to the way award miles are allocated in the future.
