JAKARTA, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- A senior Indonesian official said on Thursday that two domestic airlines have set orders to procure a total of 30 new Sukhoi passenger planes, code named SSJ 100, with initial delivery expected in 2013.
Air Transport Director General at the Transportation Ministry Herry Bhakti Gumay said that 18 of those planes were ordered by Kartika Airlines, while the remaining 12 ones were ordered by Sky Aviation.
SSJ 100 is a brand new type of commercial plane produced by Russian plane maker Sukhoi that already famous for its fighter jet plane products. The plane has the capacity of 100 passengers, according to the detik.com.
"The plane with a capacity of 100 passengers is adequate for operation in Indonesia. It's not either too big or too small," Herry said.
The brand new plane made its maiden flight in 2008, already certified by Russian authority and is expecting for certification issued by Europe Union aviation authority (EASA) in the near future.
